Wookey Hole Cave Aged Cheddar recipe devised by eight year old cheese lover

Will a recipe devised by an eight year old cheese lover and featuring Wookey Hole Cave Aged Cheddar make it onto Captain Jack’s breakfast menu at Wookey Hole?

Daniel Medley, Director of Wookey Hole Caves, Somerset’s most popular visitor attraction, Mike Pullin from Ford Farm, the company that makes Wookey Hole Cave Aged Cheddar, John Osman, leader of Somerset County Council and the Wookey Hole Witch, tuck in to a Wookey Hole Cave Aged Cheddar Breakfast Bread & Butter Pudding and offer their verdicts.

The recipe, developed by Henry Sawyer has been taken from 8 year old Henry’s book about his favourite food – cheese.  The book, entitled ‘Cheese-Tastic’ offers Henry’s opinion on a selection of his favourite cheeses sold in his community shop in North Yorkshire with accompanying tasting notes.  The proceeds from the sale of the book are being donated to Henry’s school.

Henry not only reviewed the cheeses, but he also tested out some recipes using some of the cheeses with his mum. He describes his creation – Wookey Hole Cave Aged Breakfast Bread & Butter Pudding, a savoury take on this British Classic – as ‘scrumdidalionshas’ comfort food.

The recipe was replicated by Alastair Smith, Head Chef at Captain Jack’s – Wookey Hole’s on site restaurant which serves up thousands of breakfasts to visitors to Wookey Hole each year.

The verdicts were as follows:-
Daniel Medley – ‘scrumdiddlyumptious I could eat it all day and at any time of day!’
Mike Pullin –It’s really excellent.  Well done Henry’
John Osman – ‘Fantastic’
Wookey Hole Witch – ‘Could have done with a more slugs and toe nails but otherwise, it’s great!!’
