From the Jurassic Coast

Coastal Rugged Mature Cheddar

Coastal Cheddar

Coastal Cheddar is matured at the Ford Farm Dairy located on the world heritage Jurassic Coast line in the salty sea air.

Coastal has been developed to appeal to the consumer demand for rich, rugged and mature cheddars. Aged on the Dorset Coast, Coastal is often characterised with a distinctive crunch – a result of the calcium lactate crystals which form naturally in the cheese as it matures.

Coastal Export

Coastal was first launched in 2000.  It is widely available in the UK but has really stolen the show across the Atlantic in North America.

We have been told that Coastal is now the biggest selling branded Cheddar in the USA and it has undoubtedly helped us win the highly prestigious and competitive Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the Export category on two separate occasions.

Coastal Cheese

Awards

Coastal is a constant recipient of awards at the leading trade shows across the country, most recently achieving gold medals at the British Cheese Awards and the International Cheese Awards.

Tasting notes

Our Coastal Cheddar is aged for up to fifteen months which bestows it with its rich and intense flavour but the culture used also adds a contrasting subtle, sweet, top note.

From time to time, you may encounter a characteristic ‘crunch’ when you bite into this cheddar – a consequence of the calcium lactate crystals which form naturally as the cheddar ages.

Pairing Notes

A traditional Dorset Cider would be many a local choice to partner the rugged, rich flavours of Coastal Cheddar; the naturally sparkling Lancombe Rising Cider from The West Milton Cider Company is perfect. At Morrish & Banham we like a glass of Chateau La Bastide Corbieres from the Languedoc, France with our Coastal Cheddar Ploughman’s!
